Ybi (Ee-Bee)
Ybi is a Tupi-Guarani (a Native-Brazilian Tribe) word that means earth.
The name was chosen to honor the original People of the lands we now call home, and their original languages.
About Me
Joana Lazaro Filgueiras
Brazilian-born, I've called the US home for 23 years and recently made the move to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Canada, in early 2024.
In my nearly two-decade real estate journey, I've covered roles from real estate agent to asset management, senior project management, and consultant, leaving a professional footprint in Miami, New York, DC, Portland (OR), Seattle, and even a small one in Hawaii, both in the public and private sectors.
In 2020, my MBA end-of-course paper on the Importance of Latin Women Leadership in the Development of Sustainable Cities in Oregon was published in Brazil, reflecting my passion and commitment to DEI and Sustainability. In 2023, I earned my LEED Green Associate Accreditation from the US Green Building Council.
Beyond work, my interests span travel, diverse cultures, animals, nature, arts, fitness, food, wine, DEI, psychology, and cherished moments with my 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Intriguingly, I've spent a summer working on a farm north of Ottawa, in 2017, acquired a Yoga Teacher Certificate in Nepal (although I don't teach), and host the podcast (Not) From Here.
My husband and my 17+ year old furry child are my greatest partners.
